Food Grade PET Recycling Facilities

Food Grade PET Recycling Facilities

ASD is creating world class sustainable plastic recycling facilities to divert polluting plastic waste away from landfill disposal. From discarded PET waste, we shall create plastic pellets and mono-sheets that will be locally used in their respective region, minimising importation of recycled materials and cutting out the carbon from logistics transportation.

These facilities will initially target the local feedstock market and ASD will develop a pioneering blueprint for plastics recycling wherever we operate. Our blueprint stems from the fact that our systems provide a solution for each step of the recycling value chain, uniting every contributor in the process.

Populations are growing at an exponential rate, people are engaged in vast modes of transportation, the world is not sitting still, however, our primary basic needs remain the same – food and water. We have focussed on providing sustainable packaging for the food and beverage industries – the core generator of single use plastics. If we can tackle the problem at the root of the core, we have a fighting chance of making a difference.

When assessing and designing the technologies to help fulfil this purpose, our primary objectives include:

  • Implementing a technology that has minimal carbon impact on the environment
  • Providing quality assurance to manufacturers that the products we create are fit for purpose and meet process requirements
  • Enabling consumers of PET materials to fully understand the journey of plastic and how it is recycled

Our UK Facilities

ASD is working with Government backed Enterprise Zones to set up PET recycling facilities in the UK.

Enterprise Zones have established themselves as the driving force of local economies as they unlock key development sites, consolidate infrastructure, attract business and create jobs, thus reflecting ASD’s ambition to become a true circular economy contributor.

The UK Government is committed to long-term economic growth and enables Local Enterprise Partnerships to reinvest in site development that allow organisations such as ASD to flourish rapidly and address the ever growing plastic waste challenge facing us.

We are particularly attracted to working with Enterprise Zones as they to help to unblock any barriers to delivery, such as Department for Transport support with transport infrastructure, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs support in promptly addressing environmental issues.

We are completing the feasibility for the first facility in the UK and this work will progress in the North West of England. ASD will subsequently set up additional facilities.

Our Abu Dhabi Facility (United Arab Emirates)

Abu Dhabi, UAE, is playing a pivotal role in leading the global sustainability agenda by enhancing its position as a regional centre for sustainable financing and meeting the needs and opportunities of the Middle East region.

At the request of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the Environment Agency Abu Dhabi is developing the Abu Dhabi Environment Vision 2030 policy agenda as an integral part of Abu Dhabi Government’s holistic policy agenda framework encompassing the driving Economic, Environmental and Social Agendas that together will steer the Emirate towards sustainable development.

The Abu Dhabi Environment Vision 2030 aims to preserve and enhance Abu Dhabi’s natural heritage in the efficient use of resources and contributing to a better quality of life for all.

The arid desert conditions make Abu Dhabi a large consumer of bottled water; a typical UAE resident uses 450 plastic water bottles on average in a single year and has the fourth-highest level of bottled water consumption in the world.

We hope to address this by promoting a culture of recycling in the region. Working alongside the prestigious environmental solutions provider, Veolia, a Memorandum of Understanding has been signed for the potential development of a recycling PET facility in the region.

The plan is to construct a brand new facility at KIZAD, the integrated trade, logistics and industrial hub of Abu Dhabi, that will produce around 16,000 tonnes of high-quality food grade PET pellets annually.

We are fully aligned with the vision and mission of the city.
